surprise brunch for mom

With Mother’s Day around the corner, and most people looking for ideas, I thought I would share with you a brunch we had for my Mom.  A couple of weeks ago it was my Mom’s birthday. Birthdays are a big deal in my family. It’s a day when we put everything on pause to celebrate each other. As part of my Mom’s birthday festivities, I threw a surprise brunch for her.

This was my first time playing “hostess” and I’ll admit, I tried to back out of it a couple of times. Nerves, maybe?  But, no one took the bait. And then I would think about who it was for and I’d be back on board . . . she’s deserved it, and so much more.

My Mom’s favorite color is a toss up between white and gray. So, all the flowers and decorations were white. After brunch was served, we played a game. Everyone had written things we love about her. We read them out loud to her and she had to guess who said it. I put them in a mason jar, which made for a nice little gift for her to take with her. I forgot to take pictures of the food. Oops! But, I did manage to take pictures of the cupcakes before putting them on their tray.

My Mom left with a smile on her face. My mission was complete.

How beautiful! Your Mom is lucky to have you as a daughter! The decoration was lovely, I love the white flowers everywhere! Well done! 🙂

  2. Everything looks just beautiful. I can’t imagine how happy you made your mother. I love the game idea too. We’ve gone around where each person says something nice about the hostess or VIP but never where she had to guess who said it. That would be fun. ^.^ Thank you for sharing your day!

  3. How special Kelle! My Mom’s 92nd birthday is tomorrow and I think we might use the idea for everyone to write something and have Mom guess who wrote it. Thanks for the inspiration.
