Some of you may have noticed I redesigned my website and spruced up things a bit on my blog (and facebook!). It fits me much better. I knew I wanted a fresh look, but I wasn’t sure what direction . . . Breanna Rose helped with this. There’s still a couple of things I may or may not change down the road. But, for now, it’s done and it makes me smile. If you notice any glitches or things that aren’t working, please feel free to let me know.

I missed you, Spring. Although you make me sneeze tons, I still love you. In my suit and buttoned up collar days, I remember how I used to day dream about painting flowers while going to meetings. I still dream of getting lost in a field of flowers. You continually inspire me and I’m so happy to welcome you back. Happy first day of spring friends! love, Kelle

Balloons make me smile (except when they pop!). So yesterday I pinned a bunch of balloons. This is one of my favorites. Any other fans of the movie “Up”?

I helped decorated my best friend’s room. She wanted an all black and white room. What? No color? I’ll admit I tried my hardest to put just one speck of color in the room. A pink pillow? A pink table? But, she had her heart set on all black and white. And boy, was she right! Her edgy room is pretty fly, in my opinion. Other than being insistent on no color, she also requested some of my fabric in her room. So, I created a collage of art and framed a few of my black and white prints. I also made an “I Am Fearless” print, which I’m sharing with you as a free download right here.

I would give each of you a big bouquet of gigantic flowers today. (Wearing them on top of your head would be optional).

Happy New Years friends! I am ready for you 2013. I hope the holidays were great for you! Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway. I LOVED reading all of your sweet comments from the riddles to the funny stories. It was all great. Maybe my new years resolution should be to have a giveaway once a month? Congratulations to the winner of the fabric giveaway, Stephanie. Sending virtual hugs to you all!

Hey, look! It’s Orla Kiely and me. Well, kinda. Our fabric is beside each other. Just as it should be.

I must have been in a mood this weekend . . . a dotty mood. I dressed myself in dots.
Purchased some pouches from Forever 21 with polka dots.
And even treated myself to some dotty shoes.
Maybe it was something I ate? Or maybe I’ve been looking at too many dots. Whatever it was, I was definitely in a mood. So moody that on Sunday evening, I also decided I didn’t like pink. (I went so far to remove all pink things from my studio!) Clearly I was dillusional. All is well now. I like pink again and seem to be a little less dotty.

I’ve got a little crush on neon pink these days. But, I’m a little hesitant to make a big commitment to this ultra bright hue (i.e. neon pink sofa). So for right now, I’ve only incorporated neon pink into my life in subtle non-expensive ways, like stickers or earrings. These things will tie me over while I decide if I want to get a neon sofa.

They say polka dots are in. Have you noticed how they’re popping up everywhere? Well, I just wanted to let you know RK (aka Robert Kaufman) and I have your back! We gotcha covered. Fret no more, we’re here for you.
PS. I’m not sure who “they” are. But, I did read about it here and saw it on the cover of this catalog.

This blog will be a bit silent for about a week. I’m headed to the beach for a much needed break. Typically, I take my laptop and continue to work. Crazy, right? But, I’m leaving behind my laptop for the first time in an attempt to truly unplug and relax. I hope to come back refreshed, energized and tanned. Until then, be sweet! – – Kelle

How was your weekend? The spring and summer are busy, busy design times for me, working weekends and 12+ hour days. While schools are out and everyone is taking dips in the pool, I’m typically behind my computer screen. On Friday, I decided I would try to make the best of it. I started out by having a meeting by the pool. It was in the mid 60s, so I loved being out there. Then, I moved my workspace into my living room to change up the scenery. I also put on my favorite movies to listen to while I worked. And on Saturday, I even took a break to eat at one of my favorite lunch places. A girl’s gotta eat, right? To top off all my little attempts, I booked a vacation to the beach. In a little over a month, I’ll be on the beach! I can’t wait! Okay, gotta get back to work. Have a great Monday! And high fives to all of those that are making the best out of it!

With Mother’s Day around the corner, and most people looking for ideas, I thought I would share with you a brunch we had for my Mom. A couple of weeks ago it was my Mom’s birthday. Birthdays are a big deal in my family. It’s a day when we put everything on pause to celebrate each other. As part of my Mom’s birthday festivities, I threw a surprise brunch for her.
This was my first time playing “hostess” and I’ll admit, I tried to back out of it a couple of times. Nerves, maybe? But, no one took the bait. And then I would think about who it was for and I’d be back on board . . . she’s deserved it, and so much more.
My Mom’s favorite color is a toss up between white and gray. So, all the flowers and decorations were white. After brunch was served, we played a game. Everyone had written things we love about her. We read them out loud to her and she had to guess who said it. I put them in a mason jar, which made for a nice little gift for her to take with her. I forgot to take pictures of the food. Oops! But, I did manage to take pictures of the cupcakes before putting them on their tray.
My Mom left with a smile on her face. My mission was complete.

This store is the icing to my cupcake. Seriously. The Pink Olive is located in the East Village. I went to this area specifically to visit this store. And it was worth the trip. I was in there for such a long time, admiring all of the books, stuffed animals, scented soaps, and stationery . . . all which spoke to my heart. Many of the things Grace, founder & chief buyer, has in the store are things I’ve either “pinned” or “hearted” on etsy. So, seeing them in person was quite special for me. I was like a kid in a toy store.
In addition to carrying the works of designers across the US, there’s also a great selection of things from local New York designers, such as Greenwich Press and Knot & Bow They even have an exclusive collection from the Walnut Animal Society. (My favorite is Ruthie The Deer. Love her leg warmers!) So, if you love stationery, design or are a foodie, this is a must-see store in New York.

Broadway in Soho is not the place you want to be in New York on a Saturday afternoon. It was so crowded. So, I started walking away from the busy, crowded streets and look what I found . . . an Orla Kiely store. Pure bliss. Orla Kiely opened a store in Soho in October 2011. I’m not sure if I’ll ever get to go to London, so being able to go to one of her stores was awesome. Plus, it was on my birthday. I wouldn’t be completely honest if I didn’t share that I acted like a complete goof in this store. Yes, it’s true. And I would do it all over again! But, in spite of my nutty behavior, the girls in the store were so sweet. I left with a big bag full of things and a big smile.

As promised, this entire week I’m sharing with you bits of my inspiration trip to New York. While in New York, I visited several children stores. Children stores always have such fun and cute items. These two stores were no exception. Both within close proximity in the West Village, were quite special. I first visited Yoya. There’s tons of sweet finds in here. I racked up on children’s books!
Second up, was Yoyamart. This store was a bit more edgy, but had lots of cute things. They had the donut stuffed guys I’ve been admiring for awhile. I went back and forth on whether to get one. “To Donut or Not to Donut” was the question I kept asking myself. Have I mentioned I’m into donuts right now? Two great stores in the West Village.
Next up, tomorrow I’ll share with you my trip to my favorite designer’s store in New York. How well do you guys know me? Any guesses?

Slowly but surely, I’m finally putting the final touches on decorating my home. I’ve taken the long and slow approach in decorating and only have stuff that I really LOVE. I just added a 6.5 feet fabric garland in my bedroom. It’s pretty massive, but I love it. My sister saw it for the first time yesterday and playfully said it looked like something from Mardi Gras. You would think that would make me want to take it down. But nope, I love it, so it stays. Anyhow. While searching for some art for my bathroom, I found this great print. Not the color I was looking for, but I love the statement. And for the record, my fabric garland does not look like something from Mardi Gras.

This past Saturday, 20+ talented women gathered to be inspired. They were to learn and grow. Amber asked me to share a little of my story and talk about fear. Hearing tiny bits and pieces of their stories, their struggles and how they perservered was a reminder how different, but similar our lives are. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for each of them. I’m rooting for nothing but good things for them.
Besides meeting all the wonderful women, getting a bag full of treats (see above pic), and learning new things, the cherry on top of the day was receiving this pink bag. As you can see, it’s the simple things that always make me smile.

I discovered Lay Baby Lay a couple of months ago and was hooked. Her playful nursery inspiration boards are all centered around clever themes. She finds the most adorable prints, cheerful furniture and builds a room that leaves me wanting to see what she’ll come up with next. I asked her to come up with an nursery inspiration board based on this awesome quilt Melissa made. (Pattern used is Julie’s Dot Party). I thought it would be fun to see how to use this quilt in decorating a nursery or child’s room. Here’s what Joni came up with. Isn’t it cute? And how did she know I love the movie Grease?
And here’s a close-up of the inspiration piece for the board.
Melissa made this awesome quilt using my Ready, Set, Go prints. The pattern she used is Julie’s
Dot Party pattern. This is one of my favorite patterns of Julie’s. Love, love, love it!

How many of you still have cassette tapes? I still have records, so it’s safe to say I have a couple of cassette tapes in hiding. These made my day when I found them. They’re ipod/iphone holders! Cool, right? I remember my sister and I making mix tapes as kids. I remember titling them with label stickers just like these holders. These ipod/iphone holders are the best . . . combining the two worlds of cassette tapes and digital music. See more here.
