kinda selfish

May 03, 2011

I had this quilt made for someone. I fell in love with Laurie’s quilt and decided I wanted to have a girl’s version made. Β After it was made, I held onto it for quite awhile, because, truth is, I wanted to keep it. (Now, keep in mind, I don’t have any children. So it was purely selfish of me to want to keep it.) It cheered me up whenever I looked at it. Everyone kept telling me “Kelle, you can have another one made.” But, I just held on to it. For a really, long time. I finally mailed it. My heart was a little blue. But, knowing it’s brightening up a sweet little girl’s room makes me happy.

I have a hard time giving my quilts away, too. I just love all the fabric in them and want to look at them for a while. But in the end, I send them on their merry way πŸ™‚

Who can blame you for wanting to keep it? This quilt is gorgeous!

  3. OH MY! That is gorgeous! You were so strong to give send it off to that lucky little girl! Your fabrics are precious!

I just bought that binding fabric for the purpose of binding something! I absolutely adore it!

Would you mind sharing the fabrics you used? Obviously, I recognize the Urban Zoology, but I don’t recognize the others (sorry!)Quilting is way out of my league, but I would love to use this same combination for dresses and I’ve been thinking about it constantly since I stopped by the first time. πŸ˜‰ Thanks!

      Hi Tammy,

Sure! The binding was done with the stripes from my Remix line. The back was done with the dots from my Remix line. The solid prints are Kona Solids.

OHMYGOSH! I had seen this quilt in a previous post and I was like, hmmm… that is REALLY familiar!!!!! I am so happy that you took notice of my quilt that I had made for my son. It is one of my most favorite quilts I have made – it’s so simple but the fabrics just SING in it. I am sorry to report that my son still prefers his store-bought blanket – oh well.

Your fabrics are some of my favorites and that whale fabric is to DIE FOR. I think you should make a big-sized version of this quilt for yourself………

      Laurie,

Thank you! I just LOVED the quilt you made. Thank you for inspiring me! And you’re right, I think a big-sized version is needed:)

If I make a quilt with someone in mind then it is their quilt from the beginning and I can give it away happily but if I make a quilt without someone in mind then I can find it very hard to give it away, especially if it is a scrap quilt.

can’t blame you – it’s adorable! πŸ™‚ guess you should have that person make another one for you, only in a larger size! πŸ™‚

Love the quilt and love the fabrics! The whale fabric is one of my favs in your lines, and everything I’ve made from it has been beautiful. I always have trouble cutting into a piece of fabric that I love, and I can see how you’d have trouble giving away such a beauty! I’ve always wondered if anyone else hates to make that first cut, too. Have a quilt made for yourself–you deserve it for all the great fabrics you design for us!

I don’t think I’d be able to give it away either! It’s beautiful. πŸ˜€
