fabric heart brooch tutorial / ann kelle

We made a bunch of these easy-to-make heart brooches for Valentine’s Day. They’re not perfect, but I  like that about them. I think this would be a great tutorial for a child. We used my Remix fabric with Kona solids on the back. After making the hearts, I noticed that there are actually several things these hearts could be used for. You could make them into garland, a necklace or even a shoe clip . . . lots of options.

Here’s what we did to make the fabric hearts:

1. Select your fabric (at least 6 x 6 inches)
2. Print out the heart template and cut it out
3. Lay the fabric face up on top of each other
4. Pin the heart template to both pieces of fabrics and then cut it out
5. Sew (1/4 seam allowance) around the edges of the heart leaving 3/4 inches at the bottom of the heart unsewn
6. Stuff the the heart with pillow stuffing
7. Sew the bottom part together
8: Hand sew a safety pin backing to the heart
9. Do a little dance with your heart!
