pixelated heart quilt

June 24, 2013

A week or so ago I mentioned that I’ve been finding hearts everywhere. It’s true! I’ve found them in street, heart stickers stuck on the bottom of my foot, and random objects shaped like hearts. I have hearts (and the color pink) in just about every room in my house. So, it would only make since if I had this fabulous pixelated heart quilt. Kelly made this for me. I picked the fabric, but she did everything else. Pretty awesome, right? Another happy quilt to my collection. To make your own pixelated heart quilt, head to the Blue Elephant Stitches blog for tips.

I picked my Remix chevrons for the binding. However, the way Kelly cut the fabric, it looks like a Greek key pattern. So cool!

sneak peek: super kids

June 17, 2013

super kids by ann kelle

I couldn’t be more happier to share with you my newest fabric collection, Super Kids. I love super heros . . . I actually think each of us has a super hero in us. We’ve made a super hero cape tutorial, I’ve talked about them, and drew them. But, this fabric collection is here because of you.  Initially, I had drawn these little characters for stationery. A couple of you mentioned I should put them on fabric. (Thank you, Brooke and Laurie!) So, we did. But, my collection wouldn’t complete without my girls. Girls are super heros, too. So, I drew them and a couple of other characters. I love this collection. It makes me giddy inside, especially the girls. Stores will be able to order Super Kids on July 3 and shipment to stores begins August 20th. So, be sure to tell your local quilt shop to be on the lookout.

I’ve come across some really yummy fabric bundles that you’ve made. They’re so yummy, in fact, that I’ve decided to start a new column showcasing them. First up, is this bundle featuring my chevron prints by My Heart and Sew. I love the combination of colors she chose for this bundle. Reminds me of summer.

sneak peek: girl friends

January 28, 2013

girl friends / ann kelle

I’m so excited to share with you the next adventure for my “Girl Friends” fabric collection. You may remember, I started drawing one of the girls as a ballerina when I was eight or nine. So, it was only natural that the next journey for the girls would be ballerina dancers.  I’ve always had an admiration for ballerina dancers and gymnasts. I recently asked a Julliard graduate (now a teacher)  if it was too late for me to pursue ballet. She kindly replied it wasn’t . . . although, I know better. Instead, I’ll happily live through my girls in this fabric collection. This fabric collection starts shipping to stores in February.

new collection: girl friends

August 13, 2012

mermaid fabric / ann kelle

I’m so happy to share with you my new line of fabric, “Girl Friends.” The inspiration behind this line comes from my closest friends, a group of five girls. We live in different cities, but each year we get together. New memories are formed and adventures are shared, just like my new line Girl Friends. Their first adventure . . . mermaids.

There’s seven main characters of the collection, each with their own little personality.

I started drawing this girl when I was eight or nine years old. I would draw her over and over in my sketch pad. She was a ballerina, always wore her hair in a bun and loved the color pink. It’s such a sweet feeling to see her on fabric.

Sewing Project #3: pj bottoms

August 10, 2010

Here’s my latest sewing project. One word: frustrating. The first pair of pj bottoms I made were way too big. I like baggy + comfy pj bottoms, but these were ridiculously big. I think I know what the problem was. I used a unisex pattern, which meant that the small size I made was actually a man’s small. Anyhow, frustrated beyond belief that I spent all this time making bottoms that didn’t fit, I went to the store to pick up a new pattern made specifically for women. I was going to wait for my next sewing class to start all over.  But, I couldn’t wait. At this point, I was mad and determined to make a pair of pj bottoms that fit!!!  And you know what? I did. I made a pair of pj bottoms in 2 hours ALL by myself. I was really proud. I also discovered that I enjoy sewing in my own space versus in a sewing class. (I think it’s because I like to play my music loud). So, in the end I discovered I could sew by myself and that I like it!

What happened to the pjs that were too big? My dad proudly snatched them up and has been wearing them. I told him he could have them as long as he didn’t wear them outside the house. (He’s a 6’1 man and the fabric is kinda youthful and girly). Of course, he totally ignored me. The next day, not only did he wear them to take the trash out, but he also went over to chat with the neighbors while wearing the pj bottoms. Real nice, dad.
