Today I’m sharing with you my new fabric collection, Urban Flotologie Flannel. It’s full of happy clouds, bees, kites and other float-y things. One of my favorite designs in this collection are the clouds. I have a serious adoration for clouds. I think watching the Snoopy Musical over and over again as a child has something to do with it. Remember the “clouds” song? Every time I look at a cloud I see all sorts of things. Urban Flotologie is shipping to stores now! Here are some stores that are already carrying the collection (here, here and here.)

It’s so fun to see what’s being made with my black and white triangles. It remains one of my favorite prints. I like that you can pair it with a pop of color or another simple pattern.

I was so excited to get my copy of the new Print and Pattern Kid’s book. This edition is all about children’s design. My Dessert Party line is featured in the book. (And if you look very, very closely you’ll see my tiny design behind the “N” on the cover of the book.) I’m so honored to be featured among so many great designers. Print and Pattern was the first blog I ever read. It provided so much inspiration for me as a budding designer. I never dreamed I would be included in her book. So awesome. And I’m so very thankful. Thank you so much for including me Bowie!

Today I’m happy to share with you my new fabric collection, This and That. This fabric collection is a random mix of some of my favorite things. I had so much fun drawing these designs! For example, I drew all the flats I WISH I could have in my closet. I’d like to own an old rotary phone, but haven’t been able to find the right one (and I’m not sure what I would do with one if I had one) . . . so I drew one. I had a blast! This group will ship to stores November 20, 2013.

Today I’m sharing with you the last tutorial from my back to school sewing series. Although I don’t think drawstring bags would be the best for toting around heavy books, they’re perfect for holding light weight items. This would be perfect for pre-K and Kindergarten students. We made two options – patchwork or stripes. There’s also a pocket on the inside of the bag. You can find the free tutorial here. A special thanks to Brooke for writing all the back to school tutorials!

Same colors as the original, just on flannel. I’m so happy the multi-colored bright print is included. As soon as I get my other samples, I’ll share more pictures.

It was always fun to pick out a new lunch box for school. My favorite was a blue Smurfette lunch box. Brooke and I worked together to create this free lunch bag tutorial. There’s several options for the lunch box. You could include slicker on the inside, so you can wipe it done or you could put cotton in the inside and out so you can throw it in the washing machine. Find the tutorial here.

While walking the back-to-school aisles, I was impressed at the number of options for composition notebooks. I remember when black was the only color. However, if you want to add a bit of uniqueness to your child’s composition notebook, why not use their favorite fabric to make a cover? And while you’re at it , you can also personalize it. You could use their initial or a heart as shown. Once again the lovely Brooke made a free tutorial, which you can find here.

We’re adding more chevrons to the Remix fabric family. I like to refer to these as my “chunky” chevrons. The richness of the colors is so yummy. They begin shipping to stores August 26th. What’s your favorite color combo?

Today I’m sharing with you pictures of the girls version of the Super Kids quilt. Every girl should have a quilt like this. This quilt tells a story of friends joining together to be super heros, plus there’s hearts and the color pink. It’s perfect! The heart shields are my favorite part . . . we all need heart shields at times. What’s your favorite part? Find the free tutorial here. A special thanks to Laurie for making such super quilts! You knocked it out of the park, my friend! Be sure to read all about Laurie’s experience in making this quilt on her blog.

I have a SUPER quilt to share with you today! Laurie Matthews is the creative brain behind this quilt, featuring prints from my Super Kids line with coordinating prints from Remix. Plus, color splashes of Kona solids. It’s so bright and happy. Kinda makes you want to put your super hero cape on and place your hands on your hips in a “super hero stance” ready to come to the rescue. Not only did Laurie make an awesome quilt, but she also scouted the perfect location to take pictures. Captain America agrees (see below). Best of all, Laurie has kindly put together a free tutorial, which you can find here. She’s also sharing with us all the details and background story that went into making this quilt on her blog. There’s also a girl’s version of this quilt, which I’ll share tomorrow . . . girls are super heros, too.

Schools started a week ago. Yes, you read that correctly. (My Mom actually had to return to school July 31st!) In honor of the the new school year, I have lined up a series of back to school tutorials. First up, is a pencil case tutorial. Remember this little guy I made? Well, pencil cases were always one of the things on my back to school list. So, Brooke came up with this easy, breezy tutorial. Find it here.
You can always use slicker fabric on the inside to help with durability.

A couple of months ago, I designed this children’s apron featuring Remix fabrics and Kona solid. It turned out quite cheerful! I hope will put a smile on your little person’s face. A special thanks to Amanda for writing this free tutorial. She actually had to rewrite the entire tutorial after her computer died . . . sending you a virtual high five, Amanda. Get the free tutorial here. Please note: The tutorial was revised by Veronica Lovvorn of sewVery as of January 11, 2017.
The fabrics used in this apron are:
1. Remix dots in “red”
2. Remix flowers in “primary”
3. Kona solid in “corn yellow”

I went swimming over the weekend. I stayed in the pool ALL day. I’m pretty sure if I had this little boat to play with in the pool, I wouldn’t have splashed water on those who were not swimming or repeatedly dunked my sister. I can’t believe we’re on the fourth release of Urban Zoologie! It all started with my owls and whales. This animal group keeps growing and growing. The new additions to Urban Zoologie include giraffes, zebras, hippos, lions and elephants. This cotton fabric group was part of the April release (along with the Urban Zoologie flannel). So, the fabric should be popping up in stores soon! What will you make with this fabric?
